The Crosswalk Curriculum Story

I am Megan, the creator of Crosswalk Curriculum. Crosswalk Curriculum is a teaching blog, a Teacher’s Pay Teachers store, and a place to connect.

For the past fifteen years, I’ve used my experiences with students and colleagues to improve my craft. I believe in going slow to go fast, in working efficiently by teaching cross-curricular lessons and creating safe & engaging learning environments for my students.

When I decided to open a Teachers Pay Teachers store during the pandemic, I jumped in with both feet. My goal is to create cross-curricular resources that are a good value, are standards-based, and support teachers and learners. Starting this blog also allowed me to share some of my strategies for teaching cross-curricularly.

At Crosswalk Curriculum, I’m hoping to model cross-curricular teaching strategies, share the teaching journey with my readers, and elevate the education profession.

We shouldn’t have to turn our schools into fortresses to preserve the right to own assault rifles. This. Have you ever had a science lab go completely sideways? Students will tell you, year after year, that the temperature variations between seasons is caused by the Earth moving closer to and further from the sun.⁠ As I posted a few weeks ago, I got a major wake-up call when I assigned my first nonfiction text to my middle school science students. Working backward through our pandemic timeline, I realized that my current middle schoolers had missed some critical nonfiction text lessons when the country went on lockdown. ⁠ So thankful to be in person and hands on this yea! Teaching nonfiction reading is an art. ⁠ New teachers, it can be frustrating to try to build your skills as a teacher during the first few years in the classroom. By integrating different content areas into your core subject, you can teach more efficiently and improve student engagement.⁠ True story. Students designed a device that would make a spooky noise as a pre-winter break activity that year. Using recycled cans and cardboard, they had to try to scare potential home buyers away from buying a house (inspired by a Sherlock Holmes story!). ⁠
